Your home is by far one of your biggest investments. Choosing to remodel your home is a major decision and can be intimidating. However, with a little research and a checklist of questions, your story can be positive and one in which you will be proud to share with others. To help you be prepared, we have organized a checklist of questions to ask upfront BEFORE hiring a Remodeling contractor. (Part 1, Questions 1-3.)
1. How long have they been in business?
Contractors who have been in operation for many years have certainly worked through a lot of growing pains including recessions, market downturns, and boom markets. Experienced companies have proven processes, systems, and controls in place to ensure the right materials are chosen, the project is on time, and within your budget.
Celebrating 35 years in business this year, Richardson Homes guides you through each phase of your project, always working in your best interest. Their philosophy centers around open communication and solid proven processes. They have coordinated hundreds of remodeling projects from bathrooms, kitchens, and garages to total renovations.
2. Who will oversee the project?
The contractor should be very involved in your project from start to completion. You should expect them to visit your site daily and oversee the subcontractors, ensuring work is performed accurately, safely and timely. If you were to call your contractor, he/she should always know the status of your project, as early as the estimating phase. In addition, ask about the staff. Who will you be working with regularly? You\\\’ll want to partner with a company that practices transparency in their business so you are well-informed.
Jason Richardson is a “hands-on” owner who visits each job site daily to ensure his high standards are practiced by each subcontractor, and the workmanship reflects excellence. His team shares these values and is dedicated to ensuring each client is informed and happy.
3. Will they provide references?
Your contractor should have a list of references handy. Be sure to call 2-3 clients (previous and current) and ask questions to get an idea of the personality of the company and how they operate to determine if they will be a good fit for you. Ask what went right and what challenges they faced or are facing. How did the company respond? Also, check online reviews and social media. Do they have a Facebook page where their work is featured?
Richardson Custom Homes will provide you a list of references so you can feel comfortable with your decision to move forward. Check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/richardsoncustomhomes/
