6. Practice safety.
Do you have an injured, disabled or elderly family member in the household, and your bathroom is not access-friendly? Consider incorporating wider doorways for starters. In addition, grab bars, lower counters, slip-resistant flooring, curb-less showers, or a walk-in bathtub might be appropriate.
7. Increase your resale value.
A beautiful bathroom can help your home stand out from others and increase its overall value. According to U.S. News, for example, investing in a bathroom remodel yields a 62% return on average —if you do it well. A successful remodel means thinking strategically about what upgrades to make, banking on current trends and timeless features.
8. Keep mold and mildew away.
Moisture not only breeds mold and mildew, it can take a toll on finishes and painted surfaces. A bathroom fan is the best defense. The National Kitchen and Bath Association recommends a ducted system that’s at least 50 cubic feet per minute. You may need twice as much ventilation if the space is larger or you install a steam shower. Consider a humidity-sensing unit that will automatically turn on and off depending on the amount of moisture in the air.
9. Adjust the lighting.
As for lighting, use LED. Choose from a wide array of modern fixtures, to bring different layers of illumination into the room. A ceiling fixture is suitable for general lighting; however, they tend to cast shadows on your face. As a result, consider sconces or other vertical fixtures mounted on either side of the vanity. Some medicine cabinets are available with vertical lighting strips. Dimmer switches give you options to create a specific ambience.
10. A change will do you good.
Sometimes the best reason to remodel your bathroom is because you\\\’re not happy with its current look. Perhaps you\\\’ve redesigned other areas of your house and the bathroom doesn’t fit anymore. Or, you want a relaxing atmosphere where you can escape after a long day. Change can be a good thing!
